Diagnosis is its own piece of work. We would rather spend the time finding the actual cause than sell you a part that turns out not to be the problem.
How we approach a diagnosis
We start with what you noticed
When it happens, how often, whether the engine is cold or warm, at what speed. That detail narrows things down faster than any tool. Tell us everything, even if it sounds unimportant.
Scan for stored codes
A code is a starting point, not an answer. It tells us which circuit or system reported a problem, not which component failed.
Test rather than assume
The point of diagnosis is to confirm the cause before replacing anything. Guessing at parts is how people end up paying for repairs that did not fix the problem.
Explain what we found
You get told what is wrong, what it will take to fix, and what happens if you leave it. Then you decide.
Worth diagnosing

Common questions
Why does diagnosis cost money if you are not fixing anything?
Because finding the fault is the work. Reading a code takes a moment; proving which component actually failed can take a technician real time with the vehicle and test equipment. Paying for that is what prevents you paying for parts that do not fix the problem.
Can you not just read the code and replace that part?
A code names the circuit or system that reported a fault, not the failed part. The classic example is an oxygen sensor code that turns out to be a vacuum leak or an exhaust leak. Replacing the sensor changes nothing and the light comes back.
Do I need to leave the vehicle?
Usually yes. Diagnosis is a drop-off because it takes uninterrupted time, and some faults only appear once the vehicle has been driven or has fully cooled. Intermittent problems in particular can need the car for longer.
What if the problem does not happen while you have it?
Intermittent faults are genuinely harder, which is why the detail you give us matters so much. If it only happens on cold mornings, only above a certain speed, or only in the rain, say so. That often does more to find it than any scan tool.
